Start Where the Cold Air Moves
Jenn-Air built-in and counter-depth models, engineered under the Whirlpool umbrella, chill a single evaporator and then push that cold air into the fresh-food and freezer compartments through a damper and a set of fans. That design is worth knowing because a fridge that is warm while the freezer stays cold is almost never a compressor problem. It is far more likely the evaporator fan has quit, the air damper is stuck, or ice has formed over the coil and choked the airflow.
So the first question is not whether the unit is cooling at all, but where the cold air is failing to reach. That tells you which fan, damper, or defrost part to check.
Reading the Airflow and the Controls
On dispenser-equipped counter-depth models we also confirm the doors are closing and the through-the-door hardware is not holding a gap that lets warm air in. From there, the checks are the evaporator fan behind the freezer panel, the defrost heater and bimetal, the air damper, and the thermistors that report each compartment's temperature. Because these units carry Whirlpool-family electronics, a service mode can surface a stored sensor fault that points straight to a bad thermistor.
The condenser still matters and we clean it, but on Jenn-Air the more common no-cool culprits are the internal airflow parts, so that is where the diagnosis concentrates.
