What the Condenser Actually Does
The condenser coil is where the refrigerator sheds the heat it pulls out of the cabinet. On most Sub-Zero built-ins it sits behind the upper grille. When that coil is clean, the compressor runs efficiently and cycles off regularly. When it is buried in dust, pet hair, and kitchen grease, the unit cannot reject heat, so it runs longer and hotter, the food starts to warm, and the compressor works far harder than it was designed to.
A remarkable share of the warm-refrigerator calls we take are solved by cleaning a neglected coil. It is the cheapest insurance there is for an expensive appliance.
How to Clean It, and When to Call
Turn the unit off or set it to the off position, remove the upper grille, and use a soft brush and a vacuum with a crevice tool to clear the coil and the surrounding area. Work gently so you do not bend the fins, then replace the grille and restore power. Every three months is right for most homes, and every month or two if you have shedding pets or cook with a lot of oil.
If the fridge is still warm after a thorough coil cleaning, the problem is elsewhere, such as the condenser fan, a door seal, or the sealed system, and that is the point to book a diagnosis rather than keep guessing.

Can a Dirty Coil Really Cause a Warm Fridge?
Yes. A clogged condenser is one of the most common causes of a built-in running warm, because the unit can no longer shed heat efficiently and the compressor cannot keep up.
What If Cleaning Does Not Fix the Temperature?
