Reading the Ignition
On a La Cornue range, a burner that clicks or sparks without lighting, or that will not spark at all, is telling you where to look. If the spark is present but no flame catches, the gas is not reaching the ignition point cleanly, usually because the burner port or cap is fouled with residue or the igniter is wet after cleaning. If there is no spark, the ignition components or wiring for that burner are the suspects.
Whether one burner or all of them are affected also matters: a single affected burner is a local fault, while all burners failing points to the shared ignition or the gas supply.
From Cleaning to Service
Turn the burner off, let it dry if it was recently cleaned, make sure the cap is seated correctly, and clear the ports gently with a soft brush. This resolves many cases, since fouled ports and moisture are the most common causes. If cleaning and drying do not restore ignition, the igniter, the ignition module, or the burner's gas path may need service, which on these handcrafted ranges calls for a technician familiar with them and careful of the finishes.
