What E24 Reports
E24 appears when the dishwasher expects to drain and the water does not leave fast enough. Like the related E22, it points to a restriction in the drain path rather than an electrical failure, which means most E24 cases are cleared by removing a blockage. You will often see standing water in the tub along with the code.
The drain path runs from the filter and sump, through the drain pump, along the drain hose, to the sink connection or air gap.
Clearing the Blockage
Start with the filter at the bottom of the tub, the most common cause; remove and rinse it and clear the sump of debris. Check the drain hose for kinks where it runs behind or under the cabinet. Inspect the air gap on the countertop or the disposer connection, both frequent clog points, especially if a disposer knockout plug was never removed. If the path is clear and E24 persists, the drain pump may be obstructed or failing.
Cleaning the filter and clearing the connections resolves many E24 faults. A code that returns after those checks points to the pump or control and should be diagnosed.
